I don't know what we liked best--the 'cabins' were CLEAN, well equipped and the view over the field to the mountains was great. The California daughter said the cabins were decorated with
whimsey--we all liked the ducks on the ceiling and are grateful you kept the cabin with the big table for all of us. We liked the fireplace too--and the ability to have a thermostat in each room.
All in all your place gave us all a lot of pleasure and we enjoyed talking with you -- even tho' it wasn't often.
Thank you again; if you'd like me to write a letter of recommendation, I'd be happy to.

It's still March, but it looks like May. All of our snow has melted, and our cart trails has opened up.
Some people question whether the cart rides are fun, or whether the dogs enjoy them. This video from March 29th should clear up that question:

Pricing is much easier than the sleds. Our regular price is $135 per cart, regardless of the number of people in the cart.

Headwaters Trails Alliance is holding its second annual trail run series, Run the Ranches, which kicks off this weekend. The series features a trail run at three different ranches between August and September. All of these prestigious ranches will host a casual 2-3 mile event and a more adventuresome 6-8 mile run. The series begins on Sunday, August 14th at the award winning Drowsy Water Ranch, which was named Tripadvisor.com's #1 All Inclusive Resort in the world in 2010 and again made the top 10 in 2011!The Fosha family is a gracious host and provides after race refreshments out of their chuck wagon for all race participants.
Sol Vista Basin at Granby Ranch hosts the next race in the series the following weekend on Sunday, August 21st, where participants can experience this 5,000-acre natural environment, including an expansive network of trails, a 450-acre wildlife conservation area, hundreds of acres of open space, the Fraser River corridor and miles of forestland. Devil’s Thumb Ranch completes the series on Sunday, September 18th where participants can meander through the beautiful fall foliage at one of Grand County’s finest guest ranches that encompasses 5000 acres at the foot of the Continental Divide in the beautiful Ranch Creek Valley. We've been seeing the usual compliment of wildlife, plus some, here at Mountain Lakes Lodge and North Shore Resort.
Two foxes make their rounds each evening at North Shore. They circle clockwise between the deck and the lake, searching for field mice and other critters. Occasionally they pounce on something, but have a low rate of return for thier efforts. The rabbits keep on the alert none the less.
The hawks and eagles seem to fare better. One recently swooped right past the huge window of the Lake Granby Suite with prey in its talons. The migratory birds such as pelicans and herons are returning to to enjoy the now open lakes. A small, but intensely blue bird has also caught our eyes lately.
Both male and female moose are still feeding nearby between the two properties. They are seen regularly on the Mountain Lakes property and across the road from North Shore. One of our guests saw a group of five moose on her visit here.
We are very glad the huge skunk (45lbs?) seen near the beach last week is not a regular visitor! We much prefer the herd of pronghorn antelope were scattered on the hill a few miles south of us on Tuesday. We still see elk on occasion, but the deer seem to have moved to higher ground for the season.

We've been seeing moose and other wildlife such as foxes and rabbits right on both the Mountain lakes Lodge and the North Shore Resort properties. The moose have been in a group of 3 on several occasions. Nearby we frequently see deer and the elk have been having regular beach parties (Grand County- style) right off Highway 34 on Lake Granby!

Chef Wars at the Friday Market
Granby Chef Wars at the Friday Market
Granby will be having Chef Wars at the Friday Market. The first one, on July 22, will be for amateurs only, home chefs who think they are better than the rest. The second, on August 19, will be for the Pros (defined as anyone who cooks for a living or enters other food contests on a professional level).
Each Chef will receive the category they will cook in one day prior to the competition. They will have 24 hours to come up with a dish which will REQUIRE the inclusion of a secret ingredient given to them with the category. Each Chef will be required to cook at the venue. No pre-cooked ingredients will be allowed. They will be allotted one hour to complete their dish for the judges. Scoring will be based on presentation/appearance, taste and creativity.
